Behind BUTIMASIAN,
Born and raised in South Jersey. Based in New York.
I came here for pharmacy school and stayed. Photography was always running alongside — a way of paying attention to the world I was moving through.
The name BUTIMASIAN started simply. But I'm Asian — said half-jokingly, the kind of thing you say when you're aware of being seen a certain way. It became a separate space for a separate side of life. The alias gave me room to be both things at once.
The work is rooted in perspective. A moment photographed is fixed — you can return to the same street, the same light, the same angle, and never quite recreate it. What you saw then belongs to that moment. That's what makes it worth documenting.
